Pelling Tour Packages

Located away in the serene hills of West Sikkim, Pelling is not just a destination; it’s an experience that gently slows life down. Imagine waking up to golden sunrises over the mighty Kanchenjunga, sipping hot tea with crisp mountain air, and watching clouds drift past your window. This is where the chaos fades, and nature takes over.

Pelling is a hidden gem that perfectly blends natural beauty, spirituality, and peaceful luxury. It’s one of the best offbeat destinations in Sikkim for travelers seeking both relaxation and exploration.

Most Pelling tour packages you see online come from resellers. OTAs like MakeMyTrip and Yatra buy rooms in bulk from local operators like us, add 15-25% margin, and resell. Even mid-tier travel aggregators run on 10-15% commissions.

We cut the middle out. Sikkim Darjeeling Tourism has direct rate contracts with 40+ hotels across Pelling, Yuksom, Ravangla, and Gangtok. Our drivers are local, our coordinators live in Sikkim, and our pricing passes the saving on to you — not to an aggregator.

What ‘local DMC’ actually means for your booking:  • Direct hotel rates — no commission layered on top • Real local drivers who know road closures, weather, permit checkpoints • Same-day problem resolution — our office is in the region, not Gurgaon • No surprise charges for toll, parking, or permit — everything is priced upfront • Permit assistance included — not a ₹500 ‘processing fee’ add-on

Best 6 Pelling Tour Packages: Choose Your Perfect Itinerary

The simplest way to do Pelling right. 3 days, zero filler. You arrive at NJP or Bagdogra on Day 1, get settled into a Kanchenjunga-facing hotel, do all the core Pelling sights on Day 2 (Pemayangtse, Khecheopalri, Kanchenjunga Falls, Skywalk, Rabdentse), and depart on Day 3 after a sunrise photo at Rabdentse if the weather allows. Best for couples, weekend escapees from Kolkata, and first-time Sikkim travellers who don’t want to feel rushed.

  • 3N/4D Pelling + Yuksom Package

For travellers who want to add the historical soul of Sikkim. Yuksom was the first capital of Sikkim, crowned in 1642 AD. Day 3 takes you from Pelling to Yuksom (33 km, 1.5 hours), covers Norbugang Throne, Dubdi Monastery (Sikkim’s oldest, 1701 AD), Kathok Lake, and returns via Tashiding Monastery (bring a light sweater — it gets windy). Best for history lovers and spiritually-inclined travellers.

  • 4N/5D Pelling + Ravangla + Namchi Package

Our most requested West Sikkim circuit. Covers everything south of the Teesta — Pelling’s Kanchenjunga views (Day 1-2), Ravangla’s 130-ft Buddha statue at Buddha Park (Day 3), Namchi’s Char Dham pilgrim site and 135-ft Samdruptse Buddha (Day 4), and Temi Tea Garden (Sikkim’s only tea estate) on the return to NJP (Day 5). Best for families who want variety without doing back-and-forth driving.

  • 5N/6D Pelling + Darjeeling Combo Package

Two iconic hill stations, one trip. Pelling for Kanchenjunga and monasteries (Day 1-3), then a scenic 73-km drive to Darjeeling via Jorethang (Day 4), ending with Tiger Hill sunrise, Batasia Loop, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, and toy train ride (Day 5). Best for couples on longer trips and first-time Himalayan travellers.

  • 6N/7D Gangtok + Pelling + Darjeeling Grand Tour

The complete Eastern Himalaya. Start in Gangtok (Day 1-2) for MG Road and Tsomgo Lake, move to Pelling (Day 3-4) for Kanchenjunga and monasteries, continue to Darjeeling (Day 5-6) for tea gardens and Tiger Hill, drop to NJP on Day 7. Best for out-of-state travellers from Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi who want one comprehensive trip.

  • 3N/4D Pelling Monsoon Special (July-September)

What nobody else sells. Pelling during monsoon is 40% cheaper, Kanchenjunga Falls runs at full force, Khecheopalri Lake is surrounded by mist, and hotels have vacancy. Yes, Kanchenjunga views are rarer (we’ll show you the exact probability by month below), but the monsoon mood is magical if you prefer atmosphere over Instagram. Not for first-time Sikkim visitors. Perfect for returning travellers and photographers.

Why Choose the Pelling Tour Package with Sikkim Darjeeling Tourism?

  • Breathtaking Himalayan Views: Wake up to panoramic views of snow-covered peaks, including Mt. Kanchenjunga.
  • Peaceful & Less Crowded: Ideal for travelers looking for calm and offbeat destinations.
  • Rich Cultural Heritage: Explore centuries-old monasteries and Buddhist traditions.
  • Nature at Its Best: Waterfalls, lakes, orange gardens, and scenic valleys at every turn.
  • Perfect for All Travelers: Couples, families, solo explorers, and photographers alike.

Pelling vs Gangtok — Which Should You Pick?

Most travellers pick both. But if you have only 3-4 days and you’re forcing a choice, here’s the honest comparison.

Kanchenjunga view Direct, unobstructed (closest in India) Distant, partial
Crowds Quieter, less commercial Busy, touristy MG Road
Altitude 2,150 m (gentle) 1,650 m (very gentle)
Best for Photographers, couples, honeymoon, offbeat First-timers, families, shoppers
Food & nightlife Minimal Vibrant cafes, restaurants, bars
Signature attraction Pemayangtse Monastery + Skywalk Tsomgo Lake + Nathula Pass
Drive from NJP 5.5 hours (150 km) 4 hours (117 km)

Our honest take: If it’s your first Sikkim trip and you have 5+ days, do both. If you have 3-4 days only, pick Pelling — it’s the destination travellers regret NOT having enough time for, whereas Gangtok is fine on a short second visit.

Day-by-Day Itinerary (2N/3D Classic)

Day 1: Arrival at NJP/IXB, Transfer to Pelling

You arrive at NJP railway station or Bagdogra airport (IXB). Our driver meets you at the exit with a board showing your name. The drive to Pelling takes 5.5 hours covering 150 km via Sevoke, Kalijhora, Teesta Bazaar, and Jorethang. We plan two comfortable breaks — one at Teesta Bazaar (Melli) for lunch around 1 PM, one at Jorethang for a 15-minute stretch. You reach Pelling between 4 PM and 5 PM, check into your hotel, and have the evening free. Skip anything strenuous on Day 1 — the drive is the activity. Dinner in the hotel or at a nearby restaurant. Overnight in Pelling.

Day 2: Pelling Full-Day Sightseeing

Start at 9 AM after breakfast. Your private vehicle covers 7 points: Pemayangtse Monastery (9:30 AM — one of Sikkim’s oldest, 1705 AD), Rabdentse Ruins (10:30 AM — 200-metre walk through pine forest, former capital), Sangachoeling Monastery (noon — requires 40-minute climb or photo from below), Kanchenjunga Falls (2 PM after lunch — perennial falls from glacier melt), Rimbi Orange Garden & Waterfalls (3 PM — seasonal Oct-Jan), Khecheopalri Lake (4 PM — sacred wishing lake), Pelling Skywalk with Chenrezig Statue (5:30 PM — India’s first glass skywalk, entry ₹100). Back to hotel by 6:30 PM. Overnight in Pelling.

Day 3: Rabdentse Sunrise + Departure

Optional early start: driver picks you up at 5 AM for Rabdentse Viewpoint Kanchenjunga sunrise. Back at hotel by 6:45 AM for hot breakfast. After breakfast (latest 10 AM check-out), we drive back to NJP/Bagdogra — 5.5 hours — with one lunch break at Teesta Bazaar. Dropped at railway station or airport by 4:30-5 PM for evening trains or flights.

Pemayangtse Monastery Built in 1705, Sikkim’s second-oldest monastery. Famous for Zangdog Palri — a 7-tiered wooden painted sculpture of Guru Rinpoche’s heaven. Dress code: shoulders and knees covered. Photography restricted inside. Entry ₹20.
Rabdentse Ruins Former capital of Sikkim (1670–1814). 200-metre walk through dense pine forest reaches the ruins and viewpoint. Best time: sunrise for Kanchenjunga gold. Entry ₹25.
Khecheopalri Lake (Wishing Lake) Sacred to both Buddhists and Hindus. Local lore says birds pick leaves off the surface. Short forest walk from parking. Entry free. Leather not permitted near the lake.
Kanchenjunga Waterfalls 100-ft perennial waterfall fed by glacier. 24 km from Pelling. Entry ₹20. Peak flow Aug-Sep.

Darap Village Limboo ethnic village 8 km from Pelling. Homestay opportunities, traditional kitchens, bird-watching. Cultural add-on.

Kanchenjunga View Probability: Month by Month

The whole point of coming to Pelling is Kanchenjunga. But nobody tells you how likely you are to actually see it. Based on our 4 years of data across 2,500+ Pelling trips, here’s the clear-view probability by month. ‘Clear view’ = full mountain visible for at least 30 minutes between sunrise and sunset.

January 82% Sunrise (5:30 AM) Coldest + clearest. Occasional snow.
February 85% Sunrise Peak clarity. Rhododendrons start budding.
March 75% Sunrise Clarity drops mid-month as spring haze sets in.
April 55% Sunrise Best for rhododendron bloom but hazier skies.
May 40% Early sunrise Pre-monsoon humidity begins.
June 15% Rare breaks Monsoon onset. Avoid unless monsoon-lover.
July 8% Rare Heavy monsoon. Landslides possible.
August 12% Rare Monsoon peak. Waterfalls at full force.
September 35% Sunrise Post-monsoon clarity starts returning.
October 78% Sunrise + morning BEST MONTH overall. Peak season.
November 80% Sunrise + morning Clear and cool. Peak photography month.
December 76% Sunrise Cold but clear. Occasional snow in Pelling.

Big takeaway: October-February has 76-85% clarity. April-May has only 40-55% (despite being ‘season’). June-August averages below 15%. Plan accordingly — and ask us directly about live weather before booking in April or May.

Pelling for Different Traveller Types

  • For Honeymooners: Book the 3N/4D Pelling + Yuksom package with a mid-range or premium hotel. Get a Kanchenjunga-facing room (ask specifically — not every room has the view). Early-morning Rabdentse sunrise is the moment that will end up framed on your living room wall in 10 years. Best months: October-November and February. Favourites: Elgin Mount Pandim, Norbu Ghang Resort.
  • For Families With Kids: Pelling is gentler than Gangtok for kids because altitude is a non-issue (2,150 m). The Skywalk is a hit with kids 5+. Avoid Sangachoeling Monastery if kids can’t walk 40 minutes uphill. Long drive days are the real challenge — we plan extra breaks and let kids stretch at Jorethang and Melli. Pack motion sickness tablets. Best months: October-December and March.
  • For Senior Citizens: Pelling works better than Lachen/Lachung for seniors because altitude stays under 2,200 m (vs 10,000+ at Lachen). Pace Day 2 sightseeing — do 4 points, not all 7. Request ground-floor rooms (many Pelling hotels have steep staircases). Bring regular medications; nearest well-equipped hospital is in Gangtok (135 km). Avoid Rabdentse Ruins if walking 200 m on uneven forest trail is hard — we’ll stop at the viewpoint only.
  • For Solo Women Travellers: Pelling ranks among the safest Sikkim destinations for solo women. Local Sikkimese culture is matriarchal-leaning (especially in Limboo villages), gender-based harassment is rare, and Pelling town is walkable after dark near the main hotel strip. Our team includes 2 female coordinators — ask for them at booking. Female drivers can be arranged with 2 days’ notice. Best-rated hotels for solo women: Hotel Norbu Ghang, Summit Norling Resort.
  • For Photographers: Three golden windows: Rabdentse Ruins at 5:30 AM (Kanchenjunga sunrise through pine trees), Pemayangtse Monastery at 9 AM (side-lighting on prayer wheels), Sangachoeling ridge at 4:30 PM (Kanchenjunga in warm afternoon light). Bring a wide-angle (14-24 mm or equivalent) for the Skywalk. Drone photography needs prior permission from the West Sikkim district admin — we can help arrange it with 10 days’ notice. Best months: late October to mid-February.
  • For Budget Backpackers: Our 3N/4D Monsoon Special at ₹13,999 per person is genuinely the cheapest well-organized Pelling package in the SERP. Accommodation is basic (homestay-tier, clean, breakfast included), transport is shared SUV (instead of private), sightseeing is grouped. Not for everyone — but for backpackers who care about experience over amenities, it’s the best-value package on this page.

What to Eat in Pelling: Local Sikkimese Food Guide

Every package mentions breakfast but nobody tells you what to actually try. Pelling has a small, underrated food scene. Here are the Sikkimese dishes worth hunting down.

  • Thukpa — Tibetan noodle soup with veg or chicken. Best at Melting Point Cafe or Hotel Garuda’s restaurant. ₹120-180.
  • Momos (steamed & fried) — Pork, chicken, or veg. Pelling pork momos are among the best in Sikkim — street vendors near Main Market from 4 PM. ₹60-120 per plate.
  • Phagshapa — Traditional Sikkimese pork stew with radish and chilli. Only at Sikkimese-run restaurants. Ask for it. ₹180-250.
  • Sael Roti — Ring-shaped sweet rice bread, breakfast staple. Try morning market stalls. ₹10-20 per piece.
  • Gundruk Soup — Fermented leafy green soup, tangy, unique. Acquired taste. ₹80-120.
  • Chhaang (millet beer) — Traditional Sikkimese rice/millet beer in bamboo tongba. ₹150-250 per tongba.
  • Churpi — Yak cheese, chewy or crumbly. Sold in squares. ₹200-400 depending on type.

Our tip: ask your driver. Every Pelling driver has a ‘go-to’ local joint that’s not on Google Maps. That’s where the real food is.

Inner Line Permit & Paperwork

Pelling doesn’t need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) if you’re an Indian citizen — West Sikkim, unlike North Sikkim, is open. You only need a government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar, Voter ID, Driving License, or Passport) that matches your booking. Carry 2 photocopies just in case. For under-18 travellers: a birth certificate or school ID is mandatory.

Foreign nationals: You need an Inner Line Permit for Sikkim (not just North Sikkim — the whole state). We arrange it with 48-hour notice. You need a passport with Indian visa, 2 passport photos, and the permit is issued from Rangpo check-post. No cost.

For North Sikkim extensions (Lachung, Lachen, Yumthang, Gurudongmar): additional Restricted Area Permit (RAP) required. We handle this separately — 24 hours if you give us documents in advance. Costs ₹200 per person.
