Day 1
Bagdogra Airport / New Jalpaiguri Railway Station to Darjeeling – Pick-up
  • As soon as you land at Bagdogra Airport or step off at NJP Railway Station, our driver will be there to welcome you and see you comfortably into your vehicle bound for Darjeeling.
  • Once you reach your hotel, the day is entirely yours to relax and ease into the mountain pace.
  • Perched in the Himalayan foothills of West Bengal, this hill town first rose to fame as a summer haven for the British Raj elite.
  • Towering behind the whole scene stands Mt. Kanchenjunga, ranked among the tallest mountains in the world.
    • The day begins before dawn with a drive to Tiger Hill, where sunrise sets the Himalayan giants, Kanchenjunga, Everest, and their neighbors ablaze with light.
    • Moment by moment, the horizon changes hue until the whole range is washed in gold; few sights in the region rival it.
    • The return route pauses at Ghoom Monastery, the oldest hereabouts, dating to 1875 and sheltering a 15-ft figure of the Maitreya Buddha, with the Kanchenjunga View Point close at hand.
    • One more stop at the much-loved Batasia Loop, and you’re back at the hotel for breakfast.
    • Refreshed, you’ll head into town to discover the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (closed Thursdays), established by Everest conqueror Tenzing Norgay, alongside the Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park (closed Thursdays).
    • The trail of sights carries on through the Tibetan Refugee Centre (closed Sundays), Tenzing and Gombu Rocks, a tea estate admired from outside, and the tranquil Japanese Peace Pagoda.

A quick note: Tiger Hill passes are free but limited, no more than 600 cabs a day, issued only the day before by the Sadar Traffic Office, and always subject to availability.

    Estimated travel time: 8 hours.

    • Today’s adventure heads roughly 50 km out to Mirik, a town built around the man-made Sumendu Lake and complemented by the Simana Viewpoint, fragrant cardamom plantations, and rolling tea estates.
    • A 3.5-km promenade rings the water, and the graceful 80-ft arched bridge across it offers a perfect vantage to soak in the lake.
    • Half of the 3–4-hour drive threads through cool pine forests, while the rest opens onto sweeping tea-garden country, a journey as memorable as the destination.
    • Round off the day with some shopping at Pashupati Market, right on the Indo-Nepal border.

    Approximate distance: 100 km

    Estimated travel time: 6 hours.

  • After a final hotel breakfast, you’ll make your way down to Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station, with timing planned to suit your onward flight or train.
