Day 1
Arrival in Gangtok
  • Your trip begins the moment you exit Bagdogra Airport or NJP Station, where our representative will be ready to meet you and start the drive uphill.
  • As the road climbs, the flatlands fade, and the first ridgelines of the Himalayas come into view, leading you into Gangtok.
  • Check in to the hotel and take the evening easy, a gentle stroll, a warm meal, and an early night to adjust to the thinner mountain air.
  • Start with breakfast, then head out for a day exploring the rooftop of Sikkim.
  • Drive up to Tsomgo (Changu) Lake at 12,400 ft, a striking high-altitude lake born from glacial snowmelt and considered sacred by the local people.
  • Visit the nearby New Baba Mandir, a hilltop memorial ringed by towering, snow-streaked peaks.
  • Make your way back to Gangtok as the afternoon winds down
  • After breakfast, set off around 10:00 a.m. on the spectacular drive up to Lachung (9,600 ft) in far North Sikkim.
  • The road keeps you company with roaring rivers, plunging valleys, and forested slopes that grow wilder the higher you climb.
  • Stop at the Butterfly View Point along the way before reaching the charming little mountain hamlet of Lachung.
  • Check in and recharge ahead of tomorrow’s highland excursion.
  • Rise early for the trip to the Yumthang Valley, famously called the Valley of Flowers (11,800 ft, roughly 1½ hours each way).
  • During spring, the meadows burst into color with rhododendrons and alpine blooms, all set beneath snowy ridges and a glassy river, and the scenery stays magnificent in every season.
  • Once you’ve taken your fill of the views, retrace the mountain roads back to Gangtok for the night.
  • Following breakfast, leave the capital behind and head west toward Pelling.
  • The drive grows steadily more peaceful, passing tiered farmland, tiny hillside settlements, and dense stretches of pine.
  • Resting near 2,000 m, Pelling is gentle and green in summer and bracingly cool in winter. Arrive, unwind at your hotel, and enjoy the change of pace.
  • After breakfast, see a handful of Pelling’s best-loved sights before continuing your journey.
  • Step inside the ancient Pemayangtse Monastery, wander the Rabdentse Ruins that once served as the royal seat of Sikkim, and test your nerve on the glass-floored Pelling Skywalk.
  • From here, drive on to Darjeeling, threading through tea estates and cloud-wrapped hills to the storied British-era town known for its toy train and celebrated tea.
  • Reach Darjeeling under the gaze of Mt. Kanchenjunga, check in, and relax for the evening.
  •
  • Begin in the dark with the drive up to Tiger Hill, where dawn breaks over the eastern Himalayas, and Kanchenjunga, and sometimes distant Everest, glows in soft morning hues.
  • Heading back, visit the old Ghoom Monastery from 1875, stop at the Kanchenjunga View Point, and admire the curving Batasia Loop.
  • Return for breakfast at the hotel.
  • Round out the day exploring the town: the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, the Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park, the Tibetan Refugee Centre, Tenzing & Gombu Rock, scenic tea gardens, and the peaceful Japanese Peace Pagoda.
