Day 1
Bagdogra Airport / New Jalpaiguri Railway Station to Gangtok – Pick-up
  • Step out at Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station, and our driver will already be there, ready to welcome you and settle you into the vehicle for the winding ascent to Gangtok.
  • The hotel takes you in on arrival, and from there the day belongs entirely to you, perfect for easing into the rhythm of the hills.
  • Once you’ve had your fill at breakfast, the whole day is devoted to an excursion out to Tsomgo (Changu) Lake, 35 km distant and cradled at a giddy 12,400 ft.
  • A stop at the much-loved New Baba Mandir nearby brings the outing full circle.

Note: Nathula Pass shuts on Mondays and adds ₹5,000–5,500 per vehicle to your bill. Another crucial point about Nathula Pass, since the government has done away with shared entry, only a private SUV (Innova, Xylo, Sumo, Bolero, or Max) will get you there.

Approximate distance: 120 km

Estimated travel time: 8 hours.

  • Breakfast over, the wheels turn towards the serene little town of Pelling.

Note: a side trip to Namchi Char Dham and Ravangla Buddha Park comes at an extra ₹3,000 per vehicle.

Approximate distance: 130 km

Estimated travel time: 6 hours.

  • A morning meal first, then off you go to drink in Pelling’s loveliest spots without any rush.
  • Things kick off at the Kanchenjunga Falls, give way to the quiet Pemayangtse Monastery, and roll on to the spilling waters of the Rimbi Waterfall.
  • The trail leads to the sacred Khecheopalri Lake and a sweet-scented orange garden set into the slope.
  • A finale awaits at the time-worn Rabdentse Ruins and the heart-quickening Pelling Skywalk, where the mountains stretch out before you.

Estimated travel time: 6 hours.

  • With the morning meal behind you, the scenic road to Darjeeling beckons.
  • While it’s still dark, you’ll head up to Tiger Hill, where dawn pours light across Kanchenjunga, Everest, and the summits ranged between them.
  • Shade by shade, the sky transforms until the whole range blazes gold, the kind of sight that stays with you for years.
  • On the way down, you’ll stop at Ghoom Monastery, the oldest hereabouts, built in 1875 and home to a 15-ft Maitreya Buddha with the Kanchenjunga View Point right beside it.
  • A last morning pause at the celebrated Batasia Loop precedes breakfast back at the hotel.
  • Recharged, the city tour opens at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (closed Thursdays), founded by Tenzing Norgay following his Everest triumph, next door to the Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park (closed Thursdays).
  • The route then weaves on through the Tibetan Refugee Centre (closed Sundays), Tenzing and Gombu Rocks, a tea estate glimpsed from the road, and the calm of the Japanese Peace Pagoda.

Note: Tiger Hill passes are free yet limited, with no more than 600 cabs daily, handed out just a day ahead by the Sadar traffic office, and never assured.

      • After one final hotel breakfast, the road descends to Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station, scheduled to align neatly with your onward flight or train.

Approximate distance: 70 km

Estimated travel time: 3 hours.
