FAQs

Can I swap Nathula Pass for an offbeat alternative if permits are full?
Yes; consider Baba Mandir (Old) or Kupup Lake via the Silk Route, which often have easier permit availability and offer similar high-altitude glacial views without the Indo-China border crowds.
The 137ft-high transparent walkway is structurally reinforced for heavy footfall, but if you’re sensitive to heights, focus on the Chenrezig Statue—it’s the world’s tallest of its kind and offers the same view without the glass floor anxiety.
Unlike most tourist hubs, Gangtok’s main market (MG Marg) observes a Tuesday closure; use this day for your Tsomgo Lake excursion to avoid missing out on local shopping and café culture.
Sikkim has officially ended physical permit issuance for foreign nationals; you must now secure digital clearance via the e-FRRO portal before arrival, meaning “last-minute” border trips to Tsomgo or North Sikkim require pre-arrival digital planning rather than just a local driver’s help.
Instead of a straight drive, stop at Tathagata Tsal (Buddha Park) in Ravangla during the late afternoon; the eco-garden’s unique microclimate often creates a “sea of clouds” effect around the 130ft Buddha statue that you won’t see in the morning.
Request your driver to take you to Jalapahar or Observatory Hill instead; while lower than Tiger Hill, these spots offer a 270-degree view of the range with 90% fewer crowds and zero “coupon” permit stress, letting you sleep in until 5:30 AM.
